Over 250 participants came together to run the 1 in 8k in historic downtown Pinehurst.  The race, in its fifth year, was held on Saturday, August 29.  The course was shaped like an “8” to represent that 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.  Pink was the color of the day as participants shirts were dark pink and survivor shirts were light pink.

The 8k ran through historic downtown Pinehurst, through the trails of Rassie Wicker Park, around the Carolina Hotel, and ended in front of Tufts Memorial Park.  The overall winner of the 8k was Tommy Delemnay with a chip time of 29:41.  The overall female winner was Berenice Macias with a chip time of 31:33, this was her second time winning the 1 in 8k. The overall survivor winner was Carla Albritton with a chip time of 37:02.  After the race runners were treated to a concert by Tony Barnes.

A full list of results can be found here.

This was one of the last races for the SRS summer series.

Upcoming Race – 1 in 8k Moore for the Cure | 8k, 1k

1in8logo12

Join us for the 1 in 8k, Saturday, September 7 at 8:00 am. The main race is an 8k, and there is also a 1k fun run for those who wish to participate at a shorter distance. The 8k distance was decided as statistics show that 1 out of every 8 women will develop breast cancer at some time in their lives.

By participating in this event, you can help change that statistic! All proceeds go to the Triangle to the Coast Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, bringing funds and attention to breast cancer awareness, screening, and research. Every year, our local Susan G. Komen affiliate awards over $1 million in grants to local agencies for breast cancer education and screening. Last year, a generous grant was awarded to FirstHealth of the Carolinas, in partnership with the Moore Free Care Clinic and Pinehurst Radiology, to help provide mammograms and treatment to underprivileged women in Moore County.

Race Information

The 1 in 8k is the first featured event of the Fall Series. The race will start and finish in the Village of Pinehurst, with the course taking you through the historic Village, as well as the scenic trail system within Rassie Wicker Park and the Village Arboretum.. The 8k race will start at at 8:00 am, with the 1k fun run following around 10:30 am. Packets can be picked up early Friday, September 6, at the Carolina Hotel in Pinehurst from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm, but can also be picked up the morning of the event.
