Mardi Gras Miles | 5k and Run for the Beads @ JP II Catholic School

Mardi Gras Miles kicks off the 2015 Spring Series for SRS and this year is all about letting the good times roll! (Laissez les bon temps roulez).  The 2015 Mardi Gras Miles will have a new course for spring series runners to check out.  Need an awesome Valentine’s Day gift idea?  Sign your loved ones up for the 2015 Mardi Gras Miles which will be held on Saturday, February 14.

This event will be open to all ages with prizes for overall and age group winners.  The Kids Run for the Beads will be a timed run with participants receiving beads for every lap completed during the allotted time.  Even if you are not the fastest runner you can receive a prize for the best costume, best mask, or best school spirit.

After the event, participants can enjoy family friendly activities and refreshments.

Feeling the luck of the Irish?  Join SRS as we run the Shamrock N Roll Road Race on Saturday, March 14 in Whispering Pines (14 Hardee Lane, Whispering Pines, NC 28327).   This family friendly race will feature a 10k beginning at 9:20 am, a 5k beginning at 9:15 am, and the Leprechaun Leap, a one mile fun run beginning at 8:15 am.  There will also be a Lucky Charms costume contest held at 8:45 am.

Maps of the courses are available for early training runs, 10k and 5k.  Runners with strollers will begin behind runners, pets and bicycles are not permitted in this race.  There will be post race activities including music and food.

Packet Pick-up will be available Friday, March 13 at Dick’s Sporting Goods in Aberdeen, NC from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm and on Saturday, March 14 at Whispering Pines Police Station from 7:00 am until 8:00 am, late registrations will be accepted at this time.

New to the SRS this year is our very first marathon!  Join us in downtown Fayetteville on Sunday, March 22 for the All American Marathon and Mike to Mike Half Marathon.  This marathon, half marathon, and 5k race will begin at Festival Park in downtown Fayetteville (433 Hay Street, Fayetteville, NC 28301).

There is still plenty of time to train for the races, the marathon route can be seen here, the half marathon route can be seen here, and the 5k route can be found here.  The 5k is walker and stroller friendly.  There will be post race festivities for all to enjoy.  Click here for more information.

An annual favorite, the Run for the Ribbons 5k, is back for the 2015 Spring Series with a new location!  This year the race will take place in downtown Rockingham (233  E. Washington Street, Rockingham, NC 28379.  This race benefits the Foundation of  FirstHealth’s Cancer CARE Fund.  The Run for the Ribbons is teaming up with Discovery Place KIDS  to make Saturday, April 18 a fun, family-friendly day.  The 5k race will begin at 10:30 am and the 1k will begin at 9:30 am.

New to the Adventure Series, the Run the Rock 25k and 50k, will be held on Saturday, April 18 at Raven Rock State Park (3009 Raven Rock Road, Lilliington, NC 27546).  The race will be a series of 5.5 and 5 mile loops along the trails of Raven Rock State Park and the Cape Fear River.  The race will begin at 9:00 am.  Aid stations will be located every 5.5 miles.  A video of last year’s event can be watched here.

Run for the Buddies | 5k and 1 Mile Fun Run @ New Century Middle School

The Run for the Buddies is the final race in the 2015 Spring Series.  The event takes place at New Century Middle School (1577 Union Church Road, Cameron, NC 28326) and benefits Communities in Schools.

The course is an out and back course on a sloping country road.  After the race participants are encouraged to enjoy the nearby Buggy Festival.  The race will be held on Saturday, May 9.  The Fun Run will begin at 8:00 am and the 5k will begin at 8:30 am.  All Moore County students will receive a five dollar discount on race registration.  Race day registration will begin at 7:00 am.  Free childcare will be available during the race.

Dusk to Dawn | 50 miler

Back for another year, the Dusk to Dawn 50 miler will be held on Saturday, June 27 at the intersection of E. Connecticut Avenue and Fort Bragg Road in Southern Pines, NC 28387.  The race will begin at 7:00 pm on Saturday and conclude at 8:00 am on Sunday.  The course is an asphalt course.  There will be no lights on the road and participants are required to have a head lamp and wear reflective material.  Aid vehicles will follow runners throughout the race.  To participate in the event entrants must have completed a 50k within the last six months or a 50 miler in the past 12 months.  A review of last years run can be found here.

SRS is excited to announce a new race coming to its second annual Summer Series for 2015.  On July 4th there will be the 34th Annual Lumbee Homecoming Pembrooke Kiwanis Club 5k and Fun Run in Pembrooke.  This race is held in honor of Dr. Johnny Hunt, the Superintendent for the Public Schools of Robeson County.  The 5k will begin at 7:15 am in front of the Southeastern Fitness Center (923 West Third Street, Pembrooke, NC 28372).  The race is sponsored by the Lumbee Regional Developmentment Association, Inc. and the Southeastern Fitness Center.

1 in 8k Rally for the Cure| 8k and 1k Fun Run @ Village of Pinehurst

The 1 in 8k Rally for the Cure joins the second annual SRS Summer Series.  This race will be held in the Village of Pinehurst (150 Cherokee Road, Pinehurst, NC 28374) on Saturday, August 29.  The course for the 8k will lead runners through the Village of Pinehurst, the trail system in Rassie Wicker Park, and the Village Arboretum.  A map of the 8k course can be found here.  The distance of 8k signifies that one out of every eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.  The race benefits the Susan G. Komen for the Cure North Carolina Triangle to the Coast Affiliate.

There will also be a 1k for those who wish to run a lesser distance, or those with children, or those with strollers or pets.  This course will wind through the Village of Pinehurst.

Alzheimer’s Color Your World Run | 5k

The second annual Alzheimer’s Color Your Run will be held on Saturday, September 19.  This 5k race will begin at 4:00 pm on the ground of Pope John Paul II Catholic School (2922 Camp Easter Road, Southern Pines, NC 28387).  All proceeds from this race benefit the Western Carolina Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.  This will be the first year for the race as part of the Sandhills Race Series.

Participants will complete a 5k race around St. Joseph of the Pines and during the race colors will be dispersed. Runners will receive tee-shirts and  there will be an after race party.

Dia de los Muertos | 24 hour Endurance Run

Dia de los Muertos is part of the Adventure Series races for Sandhills Race Series.  This 24 hour endurance run will begin on Saturday, October 24 at the ball fields in Lillington (405 S. 1st Street, Lillington, NC 27546).  The course is a .59 mile asphalt paved loop.  Along the course will be a fully stocked aid station and after the race there will be food and beverage provided by Dirtbag Ale Brewery.  This race benefits the Buddy Back Pack program of Harnett County.  Participants are encouraged to wear costumes, there will be a prize for the runner who runners the farthest in a costume.

Uwharrie - Black and White

The Uwharrie 100 Mile Run will add some adventure to the SRS Adventure Series for the fall of 2015.  This race begins at 6:00 am on Saturday, October 24 and concludes on Sunday, October 25.  The Wood Run Trail Head (4580 NC 27, Uwharrie National Forest, Troy, NC 27371) marks the beginning of the 20.5 mile single track course.  To complete the 100 mile run participants will complete five of the 20.5 mile loops, those in the 100k will complete three loops.  The course is a technically difficult course, there will be aid stations set at mile 6, 11.5, 15 and 20.5 of the single loop track.  The 100 mile and 100k race will have a 36 hour time limit.

Packet pick-up for the event will be held at the Best Western in Albemarle, NC (2300 US Hwy 52 N, Albemarle, NC 28001) on Friday, October 23 from 1:00-9:00 pm.  Race day packet pick-up will be from 4:30 am-5:30 am at the start line.

Registration for this event will begin Sunday, March 1, online registration will be available here.  The race is limited to the first 125 runners to register.

Freedom 5k and Chili Cook-off |5k and Kid’s Silly Chili Relay Race

A Southern Pines favorite, the Freedom 5k and Chili Cook-off, will be held in downtown Southern Pines (133 E. New Hampshire Avenue, Southern Pines, NC 28387) on Saturday, November 7.  The race will begin at 11:00 am following the Veteran’s Day Parade.  There will be a 5k and a kid’s silly chili fun run held before the 5k.  Participants in the race will gain entry in the chili cook-off.  Proceeds from the event benefit the local Special Forces chapter.

Old Glory Trail Trot | 50 Mile, 50km, 10 Mile, 50 Mile Relay

The Old Glory Trail Trot is back for another year as part of SRS’ Adventure Series.  The race benefits the Old Glory Legacy Foundation.  This year’s race will be held on Saturday, November 14 at Old Glory Legacy Farm (180 Bowman Road, Aberdeen, NC 28315).  This race is a 10 mile loop comprised of paved road, trails, and grass.  There will be aid stations at the start and finish lines and the five mile marker.  After the race there will be an after party.  Another option for the race is a 50 mile relay.  Teams can be 2-5 people and each member of the team must run a 10 mile loop.

Runners participating in the 50 miler will begin at 5:00 am, the 50k will follow starting at 6:00 am, the 50 mile relay will start at 7:00 am, and finally the 10 miler will begin at 10:00 am.  Finishers will receive a custom Old Glory Trail Trot Medal.

Reindeer Fun Run | 12k, 5k, and Egg Nog Jog

Reindeer Fun Run | Since 2007

An annual favorite, the Reindeer Fun Run, will be held on Saturday, December 5 in downtown Aberdeen (104 S. Poplar Street, Aberdeen, NC 28315).  This race features a 12k, 5k, and 1/2 mile Egg Nog Jog.  The Reindeer Fun Run benefits the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Sandhills.

The 12k begins in downtown Aberdeen, winds through historic Bethesda and the Malcolm Blue Farm before returning the finish line in downtown Aberdeen. A map for the 12k course can be found here.   The 5k tours around downtown Aberdeen.  A map of the 5k course can be found here.  The 1/2 mile Egg Nog Jog is for children nine and under and features two different heats.   Runners are encouraged to wear antlers and dress in festive costume, there will be awards for best individual and best group costume. The Reindeer Fun Run is also pet friendly, pets will receive a race bandanna.  An after race party will be held with food, games, and lots of family fun.

Nutcracker |12 Hour Endurance Run

The last Adventure Series race of 2015 will be the Nutcracker, a 12 hour endurance run that take places at Dunns Falls in Erwin, NC (121 E. H Street #101, Erwin, NC 28339).  The course is a 5 mile (one way) out and back course.  Runners may run solo or may choose to have three to five person relay teams.  Participants are encouraged to wear ugly sweaters.  There will be a post race party.
